I recently read the most out of touch “article” by someone named Carol Schatz, an individual whose opinions reflect an ignorant and callous attitude about homelessness. She seems to think that homeless advocates aren’t doing anything about getting homeless people out of homelessness. What rock did she crawl out from under? Reading her comments makes it mind boggling clear she has no clue about the state of homelessness in this country!

Here’s a clue Carol: Why don’t you prove you’re not as ignorant as you sound and do what the former Governor of New Jersey did to see for himself what kind of help is available for homeless people? Apparently you seem to think you’re an expert on homelessness from your narrow perspective. Did it ever occur to you that the reasons conditions are worsening in Skid Row might have to do with budget cuts or are you completely ignorant of that too?

Apparently, Carol never heard of a homeless disabled Fullerton man beaten to death by the police  yet she complains about the rights of homeless people being protected. Where is Carol’s proof that these so called people who “might have sought help in housing aren’t doing so.” Um, maybe that’s because it’s hard as hell to get help with housing year after year after year, but you’d have to stop looking down your nose to do some real research on the facts!

How about doing something to get the law to protect a basic human necessity…like housing, Carol? Nothing about your opinion in the L.A. Times was misguided or unintended; it was pure nimby-ism.
